Hear a word, spell it by typing or out loud, and see every letter checked.

Coming soon to iPhone, iPad and Android.

Try a word

Press the speaker, type what you hear, and check it. The app marks every letter the same way.

Type what you hear

This page uses your browser's voice. In the app, words are read by the premium voice or by your phone's own voice.

How a bee goes

A round is ten words, or as many as you choose. Each one is spoken, spelled and marked letter by letter.

  1. The home screen with two word lists, English Level 1 scored 100 and a list called Test scored 67

    Pick a list

Every list keeps its last score, so you can see what needs work.

  2. A word being spelled aloud: the app is listening, with Spell it aloud, one letter at a time, the Meaning and In a sentence buttons, and Done spelling

    Hear it, spell it

Say the letters out loud, or type them if you'd rather. Meaning and In a sentence help with a hard one.

  3. The answer marked: missing letters shown as gaps, wrong letters in pink with the right ones underneath, and Not quite, the word is according

    See every letter

Right letters go green, wrong ones pink, and the app says what went wrong. Then practise the words you missed.

Spell the words you need

This week's school list, a page from a book, or a ready-made level. A new list takes a minute.

  • Type or paste

Type your words in, paste them from anywhere, or search for a word to add.

  • Ready-made lists

Dolch sight words, and levels of common words in 48 languages, from easiest to hardest.

  • Topic lists for children

Animals, food, school and 13 more topics, in three levels and 37 languages.

  • Import a deck

Bring in a SpokenCards or Anki deck file.

  • Make one with AI

Name a topic and get a list with meanings and example sentences. Part of the subscription.

  • Split a long list

Break it into parts, or copy chosen words into a new list.

59 languages to spell in

Each letter's name is recorded in its own language, and the app's screens come in all 59 too.

Grown-ups stay in charge

The first time it opens, the app asks the year you were born. For anyone under 13, it sets itself up for a child.

Nothing a child types leaves the phone

A child's setup has no AI features, and words a child types are read by the phone's own voice.

A grown-ups area

Buying, importing and links out of the app sit behind a question for a grown-up. That's also where a parent can make lists for the child, with the premium voice saved on the phone.

No sign-in, no ads

Nobody makes an account. There are no ads and no tracking, and letters spelled aloud are heard on the phone itself.
